What are Functional Skills?

Functional Skills are qualifications in English, Mathematics and ICT that equip learners with the practical skills needed to live, learn and work successfully and the ability to apply these skills effectively to a range of purposes in the workplace and in other real-life situations.

Intuition Centre is an approved examination centre offering Functional Skills Level 2 exam in English and Maths. These qualifications are considered to be roughly equivalent to GCSE A-C and are widely accepted by the universities, education institutions and employers. Please check with the institution that you are applying whether they accept the Functional Skills Maths Level 2 qualification before taking the exam as we do not take responsibility or give any guarantee that they will be accepted by every single organisation or the course.

Qualification

At the end of your course, you shall obtain a Functional Skills Maths certificate from OCR or Edexcel which is recognised and valued as a GCSE equivalent qualification.

Exam Information

Cost

Functional Skills Maths Level 1 or 2 exam costs £110 for each attempt. (Price can change throughout the year. Please see application page for fees)

If you pass the exam and you want us to post the certificate to you, it will cost £10 (UK only) alternately you can collect from the centre.

Exam Day

You must arrive at least 15 minutes before your exam time and must bring the original and valid/current ID you registered with on the exam day.

Permitted and Prohibited Equipment

Only permitted material for both Sections is PEN

Prohibited (NOT allowed):

  • Calculator
  • Phones, Laptops, Smartwatches or similar devices
  • Pre-prepared notes
  • Protractor

For calculator section, candidates must use the on-screen calculator. Candidates cannot bring their own calculator.

We offer this qualification at Entry Level 3, Level 1 and Level 2. You shall have an assessment prior to enrolling onto the course so that we can establish which level you should be starting with.

  • Writing
  • Vocabulary, grammar, spelling
  • Speaking

Exam Structure (Could vary depending on exam board):

  • Reading Exam – 1-hour computer-based exam
  • Writing Exam – 1 hour 20 minutes computer-based exam
  • Speaking & Listening Exam – around 30 minutes group-based exam. Internally marked group-based discussion and presentation exam

Upon successfully passing these exams, you shall obtain a Functional Skills English certificate from OCR or Edexcel which is recognised and valued as a GCSE equivalent qualification.
