GCSE Maths Tuition

GCSE Mathematics is a desirable qualification for almost everyone, and a 'must' for many careers. The syllabus offered is broad and practical with much of the maths relating to everyday life (Functional Skills). As part of the revised Maths curriculum your child will be expected to apply the key skills of fluency, reasoning and problem solving across the Foundation or Higher paper. Through our initial assessment we establish the areas for development for your child and develop a specific tuition plan to address these. This will include carefully selected homework tasks to allow for independent learning. We target weaker areas and use past papers to assess understanding, ensuring that we do everything in our power to help you achieve the grade that you want.

The national curriculum for mathematics aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that pupils develop conceptual understanding and the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately.
  • reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language.
  • can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non- routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.

GCSE English Tuition

As part of the English language curriculum, your child will be expected to read fluently and write effectively. They should be able to demonstrate a confident control of Standard English and they should be able to write grammatically correct sentences, deploy figurative language and analyse texts.

We can teach students how to answer a question, how to understand exactly what is being asked for and how to write it for the examiner. Spelling, punctuation and grammar is now marked across many subjects, meaning that a good grasp of these areas is crucial to every student. We teach fluency and structure in essay writing and aim to produce a well-rounded student at the end of their course.

English literature emphasises on developing knowledge and skills in reading, writing and critical thinking. Through literature, students will have a chance to develop culturally and acquire knowledge of the best that has been taught and written. Studying GCSE English literature should encourage students to read widely for pleasure, and as a preparation for studying literature at a higher level.

GCSE Science Tuition

A high-quality science education provides the foundations for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They should be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes.

Course Description

GCSE specifications in Science should enable students to:
